In one of Kerama Islands, the snake Dinodon semicarinatus was found to show a ritual display called a combat dance during contests over their food, sea turtle young. Snakes have been known to exhibit a ritual dance during contests over mates. This is the first report of ritual dancing in a context of fights over food resources. The ritual dancing may have evolved in conjunction with a spatially and temporally cramped distribution of their food resources, sea turtle young. (translated by Asoh)
